BBVTC Examples of Special Projects

 Sempervirens Creek Bridge, 1998 through 2002 - Planned, raised funds and constructed a replacement bridge across Sempervirens Creek connecting the Sequoia and Shadowbrook Trails. This project began in 1998 with the Trail Crew milling the bridge beams from a Douglas fir that fell on Gazos Creek Fire Road. Actual construction of the bridge occurred in 2001 through 2002.


 Sky Meadow Fireplace & Chimney, 1996 - Rebuilt the fireplace and chimney at the Sky Meadow Girl Scout shelter (commonly referred to as the Ramada) which was damaged in the 1989 earthquake. Funding for this project was largely provided by Trail Crew members.


 Gazos Creek Forest Trail, 1995 through 1996 - Constructed a trail into the Gazos Creek Forest for the Sempervirens fundraising campaign.  Sempervirens raised money to purchase the land then donated it to Butano State Park.


 Eagle Rock Bridge, 1990 through 1991 - Planning, funding and construction of the Eagle Rock Bridge which was built without use of metal bolts, fasteners or nails. Over one ton of supplies and materials were hand carried almost one mile to the bridge site by Trail Day volunteers in 1990.


 Eagle Rock Trail, 1986 - Constructed a trail from the Eagle Rock Lookout to Little Basin which provided access for the first time to this isolated section of Big Basin.


 Basin Trail, 1979 through 1980 - Constructed a trail in the China Grade section of Big Basin.
